The Department

The Department of World Economy is a dynamically developing educational and research entity of the Economic Faculty, St. Petersburg State University. It was established in 1996, having united two leading departments on the Faculty: the Department of Foreign Countries’ Economies and the one of International Economic Relations.

Imparting its fundamental and practical knowledge to the students the Department trains high-qualified specialists in the field of world economy. The Department continually carries out scientific researches and projects according to the latest tendencies of international economic development. Therefore its alumni meet the demand of Russian and overseas labour markets and take prominent positions in multinational companies, banks, consultancy agencies and governmental offices.

Academic staff of the department is well equipped to deal with the subject of international trade and investment, as well as other related questions. Most of the lecturers have wide experience in participating in international scientific projects and conferences as well as lecturing overseas. The Department collaborates actively with leading educational centers from all over the world: UK, Canada, USA, Germany, Finland, China, etc.

The Department trains specialists in “World Economy”. Our students participate successfully in Russian and foreign research projects and conferences. The international student exchange is widely practiced. The most of our students conduct their researches at the Student Scientific Society established by the Department of World Economy.

Meeting the requirements of modern society, the Department continually maintains its educational programmes and offers new ones. Recently implemented short-term seminar “Commercial Diplomacy” has already proved a success in various regions of Russia. The International Summer School in Russian Business has rapidly become popular among foreign students.
